Utility and industrial customers are making the switch from mineral oil to Envirotemp FR3 fluid. So are customers who already specified a less-flammable fluid such as R-Temp® fluid. FR3 fluid is a soy-based, fire-resistant fluid and is PCB-free. FR3 fluid is the only non-silicone fluid that meets both the National Electric Code (NEC) and National Electric Safety Code (NESC) standards for less-flammable formulation as well as the UL listing requirements for use in electrical transformers (EOVK listing).

Envirotemp® FR3™ Fluid, available in Envirotran™ Transformers, is a natural ester-based fluid formulated from a renewable natural resource seeds. The base oils from the seeds are blended with food grade performance enhancing additives to produce a fluid that has exceptional fire-resistant properties and favorable environmental attributes.

Envirotemp FR3 Fluid is classified by Underwriters Laboratories® and approved by Factory Mutual for use in indoor or outdoor installations. It has an even higher fire point than R-Temp® fluid, for an even greater margin of fire safety.

Plus, Envirotemp FR3 fluid is readily biodegradable and is non-bioaccumulating. Because it is a seed-oil based fluid it can be differentiated from mineral oil regulation per the Edible Oil Regulatory Reform Act: Public Law 104-55. FM Approved Transformers can be filled with R-Temp fire-resistant dielectric coolant, which has a flawless fire safety record in over 90,000 installations since 1975, or they can be filled with Envirotemp FR3, a new even higher fire point, edible seed oil-based fluid that is readily biodegradable, non-toxic and performs even better. FM Approved Transformers filled with Envirotemp FR3 fluid are sold under the trade name Envirotran.
